student performance
For my student performance I went to a play put on by the drama department called amateurs. In this play actors were at a party after the show that they did talking about how it all went. They were skeptical because a reviewer of plays was at the play and they were interested in seeing what she thought of it. Shortly after this reviewer arrives to the party she has to be rushed to the hospital. The actors then find a draft of her review on the play and it is bad. She did not like the performance at all. Some actors want to destroy the review however some do not think this is moral. In the end the people who host the party somehow relate this all to their son dying. I did not like this play very much. It was a stretch.

Guest Speaker
On November 17th we listened to Rose Jacobs Gibson speak about her work over the years. She was on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors covering areas like Redwood City and Palo Alto. She has fought for things like affordable housing, health inequalities, and social justice. From her talk I got her website, hagarservicescoalition.org, which talks more about what she does to develop leaders in the world today. This includes initiative for Leadership Engagement and Development or iLEAD as she talked about in her speech. This is designed to stimulate greater civic participation locally and across the nation. It is like our "call to action day" where we get out and help those around us. I enjoyed her talk because I could personally relate to it and I would recommend the freshman seminar classes in the future listen to her as well.

Freshman conference
Last Thursday I attended the conference for the freshman seminar classes. Here we learned about the different projects that the other FYE classes had been working on. I got to learn about what the other freshman got to do on call to action day and how they liked it. Also they talked about the main focus of their class, which was fundraising for the non-profit company iLead. I found this interesting because it dealt with civic duties like my class does. It promotes helping out one's community almost like the ACLU does.

Call to action day was fun for me however I do not think my classmates felt the same way. I think getting out and helping the community is great but there are a few changes I would make. My problem was more with the registration. I was told I would get an email about where I would go, however I received multiple and was unsure of where to go. Also not only I, but most people did not like the day it was on. I believe that we should have been able to chose a day to do it on. I think the school should give students and teachers three to five different days and they could chose one out of these options to go and do work. besides that I was lucky enough to go to a very fun location and I had a blast. Hopefully I will get to go there again next year.

Engagement day was a great time for me to meet new people. On engagement day we talked about the hallmarks in groups of people that were in different classes than me. I learned what NDNU was all about and their mission for the world. I also learned about how can I, as a student, can contribute to this mission. After learning about it we shared what we came up with in front of all the students in all the different classes. Personally I did not like this because I do not like talking, especially to a lot of people. My team members however helped me with this and were very friendly. It is nice to go to school with such nice peers.
